Messaging Campaigns and 10DLC Registration
Register a brand and a messaging campaign so your US tracking numbers can send texts, and get approved on the first try.
When registration is required
US carriers require A2P 10DLC registration before a business can send text messages from standard 10-digit numbers. In CallScaler this lives in Messaging Campaigns, with three tabs: Brands (the businesses carriers verify), Campaigns (what each brand texts) and Phone Numbers (which numbers can text and what each is waiting on). A business can register more than one brand, and a brand can have more than one campaign.
Who does not need it
Canadian local numbers are enabled for texting at purchase and never need a brand or campaign. If you only need to receive texts on a US number, open the Phone Numbers tab and choose Receive only: pick the numbers and support switches them on without registration. Inbound texts then show in Conversations; replies from those numbers stay off until they are on an approved campaign.
Toll-free numbers follow a separate toll-free verification. Contact support to enable texting on a toll-free number.
Step 1: Register a brand
1. On the Brands tab, click New brand.
2. Enter the brand name customers see in texts, the legal business name, tax ID, address, website and a contact at the website domain.
3. Submit. Clean submissions are often verified the same day; a mismatch between the legal name, EIN or address and tax records takes a few business days or fails. You get an email either way.
Step 2: Submit a campaign that passes review
1. On the Campaigns tab, click New campaign and pick the brand and use case.
2. Describe what you send, add 2 to 5 sample messages, and review the three automatic replies (opt-in confirmation, HELP, STOP). Each field shows a live checklist of what carriers look for.
3. Describe how customers opt in, or pick the channels and let the form write it.
4. Add proof of consent: a link to your privacy policy, a link to the page where customers opt in, and a screenshot of that page. All three are required; the two links are added to what carriers read.
5. Submit. Approval usually comes within a few days, up to 1 to 2 weeks if carriers ask for changes. You get an email when it is decided.
What carriers reject most often:
- Sample messages that do not include the brand name.
- An opt-in confirmation that does not state message frequency, that msg and data rates may apply, and STOP and HELP instructions.
- A HELP reply with no phone number, email or website.
- Public link shorteners (bit.ly, tinyurl) in messages.
- No privacy policy or no evidence of where consent is collected.
A campaign cannot be edited after submission. If it is not approved, open it, read the reason, click Fix and resubmit and submit a new campaign; the registration fee applies again.
Step 3: Assign numbers
1. Once a campaign is approved, go to the Phone Numbers tab and click Assign numbers.
2. Pick the campaign and the US local numbers you want to text from. A campaign holds up to 49 numbers; create another campaign for more.
3. Each number shows Pending carrier for 1 to 3 business days, then Registered. Texts can be sent once it is registered.
Fees and inactivity
Brand and campaign fees are carrier fees passed through at cost and shown before you submit. The campaign's monthly fee comes out of your balance while it is active. Carriers charge a penalty for a campaign that sends nothing for 60 days; CallScaler emails a reminder at 45 days so you can send a quick test.
Role permissions
Brand submission, campaign submission, number assignment and receive-only requests are restricted to account owners and admins. Managers and viewers cannot open Messaging Campaigns.
Troubleshooting
If a send is refused, check these first:
1. Confirm the From number belongs to the same business.
2. Confirm the number shows Registered on the Phone Numbers tab, not Pending carrier, Receive only or Not registered.
3. Confirm your balance is sufficient in Settings → Billing.
4. Click Refresh status on Messaging Campaigns before retrying.
